Environmental Research & Technology Division (1992 to 2002)

Manager of ASTD Field Lab for Environmental Management Directorate, responsible for operations and quality (Feb 2002 to present).

Supervisor of Gamma Irradiation Facility, responsible for operations and safety (1992-1999).  This facility, used for radiation damage studies, contained 28,000 Curies of cobalt-60, when it was decommissioned in March, 2001.

Research and development in materials science, environmental chemistry, and chemical engineering:

<             Prepare technical safety reviews on manufacture of dye-sensitized TiO2 photovoltaic production.

<             Conducting studies to improve the treatment of mercury and mercury-contaminated materials.

<             Evaluating liquid treatment processes for a radioactive waste facility in Murmansk, Russia.

<             Preparing waste management plans for an on-site environmental restoration project.

<             Evaluating and validating data from on-site environmental monitoring activities.

<             Planning, documenting and executing radiation damage experiments.

<             Developed test program for polymer aging in nuclear power plant electric cables.

 

Reactor Systems Division (1990 to 1992)

Conducted experimental studies of uranium/graphite materials and carbides as part of an advanced uranium fuel development program.  (Obtained Q clearance, which was rescinded when program was completed.)

Nuclear Waste and Materials Technology Division (1982 to 1990)

Provided technical assistance, including laboratory studies, to Nuclear Regulatory Commission in various projects:           treatment of decontamination wastes, determination of chemical form of tritium in self-luminous signs, biodegradation of ion-exchange media, and evaluation of test methods for determining long-term stability of solidified low-level radioactive waste.
